squirrels scampering, scuttling, and scooting (say that fives times fast)

For the last few days, I’ve watched cute little squirrels scurrying in the backyard intent on finding ideal winter storage spaces.  The way they are feverishly searching makes me wonder what this winter may hold.  They are racing and ‘squirreling’ around with nuts held tightly in their cheeks.  Where are they finding pecans?  I think acorns are plentiful from trees around the neighborhood.  I wonder if they can find enough to last thru the winter.  I’ve seen evidence in some of my flower beds that ‘tasty winter food’ is hidden beneath the surface.  I wonder if there’s a problem with some squirrels bullying others or stealing food.  That would be sad.  If food were stolen, I wonder if others would share their stash with less fortunate ones.  If not, that would be sad.  I wonder if the ones that dine from my bird feeders don’t otherwise have enough food.  Maybe I should stop shooing them away.  Yeah, I should.
